Oil Gator- Biological soil remediation

Afdrukken E-mail

Bioremediation with Oil Gator: Pollutant break down or stabilising by means of micro-organisms. When Oil Gator is tilled and mixed with the contaminated soil, a 40% reduction per month in remaining hydrocarbons will be achieved, if applied according to protocol.

Government, industry and the public have recognised the need for more cost-effective alternatives to traditional physical and chemical methods for cleaning up contaminated soils. Bioremediation, the degradation or stabilisation of contaminats by microorganisms is a safe, effective, and economic alternative to traditional methods of remediation. Oil Gator is a dual purpose oil/fuel absorbent and bioremediation agent for use on direct spills or on Hydrocarbon contaminated soil.

Oil Gator is produced (by patented process) from chemically modified cellulosic fibers containing all the necessary ingredients (Nitrogen, Sulphur and Phosphorous) in the correct mixture to enhance biodegradation of Hydrocarbons by indigenous micro-organisms.

Oil Gator’s nutrients are imbedded into the cellulose fibre and cannot be separated. Also the nutrients will not be released into the ground water so can not cause any environmental damage as is often the case when to much fertilizer is added to a farming area.

Oil Gator is an “ALL NATURAL” biocatalyst and is 100% biodegradeable. Oil Gator does NOT contain any manmade, cultured or genetically altered micro-organisms. When moisture is added, the microbes have the ideal condition necessary to reproduce and utilize the contaminant (Hydrocarbon) as a food source. Under ideal conditions all microbes will double every 20 minutes to an maximum equilibrium level of about 3 million per gram !

One bag (12.3 kg) of Oil Gator will treat a cubic meter (m3) of soil which has been contaminated at 50.000 ppm Hydrocarbons or less.

Please note that microbes are not worms and that they will not seek out the oil in the soil. Oil Gator will absorb and encapsulate the Hydrocarbon ON CONTACT. It will NOT leach out during the remediation period.
So be aware of alternative products which claimes that only 1-2 kg of product per metric ton (m3) of soil has to be used. These products are unprocessed cotton and will run out of Nitrogen, Sulphur and other nutriƫnts that are required (used) during the bioremediation period. Oil Gator has been treated with Ammonium Sulphate to make the material less susceptible to fire.

Oil Gator uses nature's methods and materials to control and remediate Hydrocarbons and turning them into water and carbon gas. The use of this method will allow contaminated soil to be recycled as soil for landscaping.

YES, Oil Gator will also remediate BTEX, PAH’s, PCP’s and PCB’s, BUT the longer and more complex the Hydrocarbon (HC) chain the longer the remediation period.
However if the HC is a chlorinated compound and if the chlorine compound is significant this will adversely effect the remediation time.

If Oil Gator is used when conditions (temperature) are not ideal (freezing winter), the micro-organisms will go dormant and remain dormant until conditions improve.

No harm will ever be done to the environment by the use of Oil Gator.

Since 1988 Oil Gator is the leading manufacturer of this biodegratable cotton lint based product in the world.
The product is manufactured in a modern facility in Jackson, Mississippi USA and is so far sold in Canada, North & South America, Australia, Asia, Japan, South Africa and Europe.

Oil Gator is supported through the US Department of Agriculture via their AARC program (The Alternative Agricultural Research and Commercialisation Corporation).
